Julia Roberts has expressed her feelings about the passing of her ex-boyfriend, Matthew Perry, who sadly died at the age of 54 from an apparent drowning on October 28.

“The sudden loss of someone so young is really sad,” she shared with “Entertainment Tonight.” “I believe it reminds all of us to appreciate what we have and to keep moving forward in a positive way as much as possible.”

Julia Roberts, aged 56, and the star of “Whole Nine Yards” became friends in the early 1990s, just before Julia had a guest role in the second season of “Friends.”

They were all so friendly to me when I was just a guest character, and it was a really enjoyable experience,” she shared with “ET” about her time with the “Friends” cast.

She mentioned, “All good thoughts and feelings.”

In Perry’s 2022 memoir “Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing,” he disclosed that Roberts agreed to join the popular NBC show if her character could be integrated into Chandler Bing’s story arc.

Responding to the show’s producer Marta Kauffman’s request, Perry persuaded Roberts by sending her roses along with a personal card.

Their courtship began with daily faxes,” the “Serving Sara” star shared. “This was pre-internet, pre-cell phones – all our exchanges were done by fax. And there were many; hundreds.”

“Three or four times a day I would sit by my fax machine and watch the piece of paper slowly revealing her next missive,” Perry added.
“Her way of putting sentences together, her perspective on the world, and the expression of her unique thoughts were all incredibly captivating,” Perry reflected.

According to “The Odd Couple” star, their faxes took a romantic turn and evolved into “five-hour” phone calls. Eventually, Julia Roberts surprised him by showing up on his doorstep.

“When I opened it, there she was, a smiling Julia Roberts on the other side. I believe I said something like, ‘Oh, that’s Julia Roberts,’” Perry remembered.
In 1996, the couple parted ways due to the actor’s battle with drug and alcohol addiction, leading him to feel inadequate for the actress.

“Dating Julia Roberts had been overwhelming for me,” Perry wrote in his memoir. “I constantly feared she would break up with me. I felt inadequate, broken, unlovable. Instead of facing the inevitable pain of losing her, I chose to break up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts.”

As previously reported, Perry was found in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home in late October. Officers declared him deceased at the scene, and the cause of death is pending additional tests.

After dating Julia Roberts, Perry later had a six-year relationship with Lizzy Caplan and a brief engagement to Molly Hurwitz from 2020 to 2021.
