On Wednesday, an individual with a firearm carried out a violent incident at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Sadly, three people lost their lives, and another was injured. The person moved through different floors in Beam Hall, but the campus police intervened, stopping them in a shootout.
Sheriff Kevin McMahill, in a news conference, described the event as a heinous and unforgivable crime.

Using a crowbar, the police opened the doors and safely guided the group to security.
A UNLV student named Mike Henderson shared that he was in a hallway when the shooting began. He quickly went into a classroom to stay safe. Later, the police helped him leave, and he saw someone injured with their face down and bleeding. At UNLV, the police were assisting in evacuating buildings one at a time, and students were instructed to stay indoors for their safety. Authorities confirm that the university is now safe, and due to the shooting, the campus will be closed for the rest of the week.
In a message on Wednesday night, President Whitfield described the incident as something very hard to understand. “We are all still in shock as we process the unfathomable event,” he wrote. “Members of our community lost their lives, and others were injured. My heart aches for our UNLV family. I know all of us are sending our love and support to the victims, their families, and friends during this difficult time.”
UNLV will remain closed for the entire week, and a decision about reopening on Monday will be made later, as mentioned by university police chief Adam Garcia during the evening news conference.
