“The Bear” secured the Best Comedy award at the Golden Globe Awards, triumphing over strong contenders such as “Ted Lasso” and “Abbott Elementary.” The audience and voters enthusiastically supported “The Bear” with a resounding “Yes, chef!” for its exceptional performance.

There is a discussion about whether “The Bear” qualifies as a comedy. Created by Christopher Storer, the FX series tends to have more tense moments than comedic ones, with episodes like the recent standout “Fishes” being described as intense. Despite this, “The Bear” also features a softer side and adheres to the half-hour running time characteristic of comedies, leading to its inclusion in this category. As a result, there is some uncertainty regarding its classification in the comedy genre.

The initial season of the show turned out to be a surprising success, despite its gritty atmosphere and the absence of big-name stars (apart from Jeremy Allen White). White portrayed Carmy, a troubled chef inheriting the restaurant from his late brother. The season gained popularity, making Jeremy and his co-star Ayo Edebiri, who played an ambitious young chef, fan favorites.

In the second season, the restaurant shifted its focus from serving Italian beef to aiming for a Michelin star. The emphasis was on the camaraderie among the staff, with occasional special episodes for specific characters. The season received acclaim for its realistic portrayal of aspects like work, grief, Chicago, upscale cuisine, and friendship.

“The Bear,” an unexpected contender for Best Comedy last year, added another surprise by securing a win for Jeremy Allen White in the role of Carmy. While he was nominated last year, winning again this year was somewhat expected. Jeremy expressed his joy at being in a room with people he has admired for a long time.

In a significant achievement, Ayo Edebiri, Jeremy’s co-star, earned her first Golden Globe for Best Actress in a TV Comedy. Their victories brought happiness and recognition to the show, marking a positive day for the entire team.

In her enthusiastic acceptance speech, Ayo Edebiri referred to everyone at “The Bear” as her family and expressed her deep love for them. She felt honored to work and grow alongside the team.

Ayo extended her gratitude to her agents, managers, and assistants, acknowledging them as “real ones.” She thanked them for handling her sometimes “crazy, crazy emails” with patience and support.

Lionel Bryce, who takes on the role of Marcus in the show, represented the cast and crew when accepting the award. He expressed gratitude, especially to the entire restaurant community, recognizing that while they portrayed characters for a limited time, the highs and lows depicted in the show mirror the everyday reality for those in the restaurant industry. He thanked the community for embracing and supporting them.
