“Saturday Night Live,” Dakota Johnson was surprised by unexpected guests Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake, who crashed her monologue.
Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon unexpectedly appeared during Dakota Johnson’s Saturday Night Live monologue, joining her and musical guest Justin Timberlake for some lively banter.
Johnson mentioned her return to Studio 8-H at Rockefeller Center, recalling her last visit in 2015. She reminisced about the notable figures in the audience, including directors Spielberg and Lucas, and even Donald Trump before his presidential campaign. A photo displayed her among them, and she humorously referenced Trump without directly naming him.
Dakota Johnson made a light-hearted remark about standing close to someone who later became powerful, referring to a photo with Taylor Swift from 2015. During the show’s closing segment, viewers spotted Dave Chappelle alongside Jimmy Fallon, smiling and bowing, prompting discussion due to his controversial comedy style.
The actress Johnson, who is currently on a promotional tour for the upcoming Sony Pictures thriller ‘Madame Web,’ humorously remarked on her dislike for interacting with journalists during a talk show monologue. She shared a playful clip from her childhood in the late 1990s, where she rolled her eyes on the red carpet while her father, actor Don Johnson, engaged with reporters. The anecdote suggests that her attitude towards media interactions has remained consistent over the years.
When Johnson referred to Timberlake as the evening’s musical guest, Timberlake joined her on stage, playfully acting confused about also hosting.
Timberlake humorously remarked, “If you want me to be in sketches — I have hosted before,” raising his hand to signal his five previous hosting appearances on the show. He added a cheeky comment, making a clever reference to his 2006 hit track “SexyBack.”
Timberlake jokingly remarked, “First, he brought sexy back, and now he’s bringing ‘coming back.'” After a brief pause, he shook his head, saying, “Now that I’ve heard that out loud…” Unexpectedly, Fallon made a surprise appearance on stage. The host of “The Tonight Show” was dressed in a retro 1970s outfit with puffy hair and a short beard. He humorously said, “I’m here to say, break a leg,” injecting a light-hearted touch into the scene.
In a later part of the show, Timberlake participated in a sketch titled “The Barry Gibb Talk Show,” where Fallon reprised his role as Barry Gibb. Timberlake portrayed Robin Gibb, the younger brother who passed away in 2012. Dressed in a similar suit with longer feathered hair, the Australian Gibb brothers engaged in conversation, discussing the tense state of American politics. Topics included Trump’s potential GOP nomination and his attempt to return to the White House following his 2020 defeat by President Joe Biden.
In the “Weekend Update” segment, the focus was on humor related to Trump’s legal troubles and peculiar campaign trail antics. Colin Jost played a clip of Trump using the term “de-bank” in a speech, and Jost quipped, “I don’t know what ‘de-bank’ means, but he might have to take de-ambulance to see de-doctor.”
Another significant theme of the segment was the recent Oscar nominations and the achievements of nominees from underrepresented backgrounds. Bowen Yang appeared as a movie enthusiast named Ethan, introducing a new awards show called “The Ethans.” Yang’s Ethan even borrowed a line from Niecy Nash-Betts’ real-life Emmy Awards speech on January 15, saying, “I want to thank me for believing in me,” in a dramatic fashion. Jost acknowledged that Ethan was inspired by Nash-Betts’ memorable acceptance remarks, and Ethan humorously continued, “Go girl with your bad self. You did that.”
Towards the end of the episode, there were two surprise appearances by “Shark Tank” judges Barbara Corcoran and Mark Cuban. They joined a sketch where Johnson played a humorous member of a women’s book club. In the sketch, Johnson’s character aimed to launch a company selling T-shirts with a lengthy slogan starting with “I’m Okay.” Corcoran made a deal to take a share of the company, following the usual “Shark Tank” format. To everyone’s surprise, Cuban then offered $1 million, creating a humorous twist for the book club members.
Timberlake, making his seventh appearance on “SNL” since 2000, performed two songs. The first, “Sanctified,” featured a rap by Tobe Nwigwe with a small and elaborate choir. The second song, “Selfish,” was a simpler performance with only a keyboard and drums.
Timberlake is gearing up to release a new album, “Everything I Thought It Was,” on March 15 and will kick off the Forget Tomorrow world tour on April 29 in Vancouver
