The Garden State recently experienced an increase in its greenery as an individual emerged victorious in the $1 billion Mega Millions jackpot on Tuesday. Officials have confirmed that the winning ticket was sold in Monmouth County, New Jersey.

While the identity of the winner remains unknown, the New Jersey Lottery announced on Wednesday that the ticket was purchased at ShopRite Liquor in Neptune Township.

The winning numbers for the jackpot were 7, 11, 22, 29, 38, and the gold Mega Ball 4.

State lottery officials have scheduled a news conference for Wednesday at noon at the ShopRite location on Route 66. ShopRite will be presented with a $30,000 bonus check.

It is important to note that the sale of the ticket in New Jersey does not necessarily indicate that the winner resides there. In addition, winners have the option to remain anonymous, as stated on the game’s website.

The jackpot had been growing since early December, with the most recent win occurring on December 8th. In the absence of a winner, the jackpot rolls over. Prior to the drawing, game officials estimated the jackpot to be $1.13 billion.

The jackpot has now reverted to its default amount of $20 million.

Mega Millions is played in 45 states, including Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

As of now, no one has stepped forward to claim the $1.13 billion grand prize.

The grand prize winner, who matched the five white balls and the gold Mega Ball, hails from New Jersey. Additionally, there was a Match 5 plus Megaplier winner worth $2 million in New York. In total, there were 13 Match 5 winners worth $1 million, with two in Florida, Georgia, and New York, and one each in California, Colorado, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.

According to New Jersey Lottery officials, the winning ticket was sold at ShopRite Liquor #781, located at 2200 Route 66 in Neptune, Monmouth County. The retailer will receive a $30,000 bonus check for selling the winning grand prize ticket.

Further details regarding the location of the ticket sale will be provided during a noon press conference.

According to the Mega Millions website, this marks the first jackpot win from New Jersey since July 24, 2020. It is the 24th instance of a jackpot winner from the Garden State, either individually or shared with other states.

In addition to the grand prize winner, there were 171 tickets that matched four white balls plus the Mega Ball, winning the game’s third-tier prize. Among these, 34 tickets are valued at $20,000 each due to the inclusion of the optional Megaplier, while the other 137 third-tier winning tickets are worth $10,000 each.

The winning numbers from the Friday drawing were 3, 8, 31, 35, 44, and the Mega Ball was 16. The Megaplier for that drawing was 3X.

The next Mega Millions drawing will occur on Friday, March 29, at 11 p.m. ET. Mega Millions drawings take place twice a week, every Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. ET.

The deadline for purchasing Mega Millions tickets varies by state. In Delaware, tickets can be purchased until 9:45 p.m. ET on the day of the drawing. In New Jersey and Pennsylvania, tickets can be purchased until 9:59 p.m.

When playing the Mega Millions lottery, you have the option to select six numbers. The first five numbers are chosen from a range of 1 to 70 for the white balls, while the last number is chosen from 1 to 25 for the gold Mega Ball. If you find it challenging to choose your own numbers, there is an Easy Pick or Quick Pick option available that randomly generates numbers for your ticket.

Mega Millions tickets are priced at $2 per play.

In Pennsylvania, tickets can be purchased online at www.pailottery.com/games/draw-games/.

New Jersey also offers the option to buy tickets online at njlotto.com.
