Authorities stated they assisted eight individuals with serious injuries and seven others with severe injuries during the shooting incident.

Nine children were injured, but they’re expected to recover.

Authorities have arrested three individuals believed to be connected to the shooting.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves announced that 22 people were shot, with one fatality. Furthermore, three individuals have been taken into custody.

Over 800 police officers were on duty to watch over the parade. When the gunshots rang out, they responded quickly. Detectives began investigating the incident immediately. Additionally, the fire department provided assistance to the injured individuals.

According to a local radio station, one of its DJs, Lisa Lopez, was sadly killed in the shooting.

The celebration in Kansas City turned into a scene of chaos.

The survivors of the shooting were transported to three local hospitals, with the most critical cases taken to the hospital within 10 minutes of the incident, officials reported.

Nine children, aged six to 15, who sustained gunshot wounds are currently receiving care at Children’s Mercy Hospital, according to Stephanie Meyer, the chief nursing officer.

Ms. Meyer described the main emotion the victims showed when they arrived as “fear.”

Local hospitals mentioned that they were assisting individuals who were not shot but had suffered injuries in the sudden stampede that followed the shooting.

City officials chose not to disclose the names of the victims or details about the arrested suspects. Police Chief Graves stated that they were still unsure about the motive behind the shooting.

According to a law enforcement the shooting was believed to have stemmed from an argument and was not related to terrorism.

The shooting took place close to Union Station in downtown Kansas City, where the parade wrapped up around 2:00 PM local time. Many fans were gathered there to enjoy the festivities.

Reports from the scene indicated that Kansas City Chiefs players were still on stage when the shooting occurred. The gunfire prompted attendees, including the city’s mayor and his family, to seek safety.

Authorities are investigating the motive behind the shooting and gathering both physical and digital evidence.

“A man named Paul Contreras informed a local television station, KETV, that he was among the fans who assisted in subduing a man during an incident. According to Contreras, they tackled the individual, and he observed the person dropping a firearm as a result.”

“Mr. Contreras recounted that the man persisted in attempting to flee while they struggled to restrain him, noting the swift arrival of the police. ‘We were grappling with him, trying to keep him subdued, while he resisted our efforts,’ Mr. Contreras explained. He also shared that his 23-year-old daughter, Alyssa, was able to capture the incident on her mobile phone.”

The police chief mentioned she had seen a video depicting fans restraining someone. She added that investigators are currently reviewing the footage to confirm if the person shown is one of those who were taken into police custody.

Numerous families were present at the event.

According to KCUR, Children’s Mercy Hospital attended to 12 patients from the rally, primarily children, with nine sustaining gunshot wounds. Mayor Quinton Lucas expressed his worry, revealing he had thought about bringing his child to the event but ran for safety when the shooting began.

Officials like Missouri Governor Mike Parson and Kansas Governor Laura Kelly were present, assuring support and safety measures. The Chiefs’ players, coaches, and staff were confirmed safe. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared prayers for Kansas City on social media.
